Snap Back! Interview the Second

Aloha, gentle readers!  Here are the answers to your kind inquiries!  Many thanks to those fab muhfuggaz who asked questions of the SCP cast, and many thanks to those of you reading!

Captain-Black-Rose: For Morgan, Bacon, and Finn separately: WHY are you trying to corrupt Kit?  Do you remember?  (Do you even remember who you work for?)

MORGAN: I know EXACTLY what I'm doing here, love.  Remember which one of us has been tempting the innocent since before you apes cooked your food.  Kit NEEDS me -- she's gotten very comfortable in that lonely little bubble of hers, without a glimpse into the sinful side of life.  I intend to pop that bubble.  With every tool I possess.  EVERY tool.

BACON: Yeeeeaahhh, see, I'm tryin' to keep the kid IN that bubble.  Kit's plenty screwed up in the coconut without any of us, okay?  But carefully driving her away from any real social attachments, convincing her that she's better off staying home eating chips and watching Destination Truth?  That's all me.

MORGAN: I'm sorry to interrupt, but I just want to make it clear what I meant when I was referring to my tool earlier.

FINN: Oh my grits an' gravy, WE GET IT.  Anyway, I shouldn't be saying this, but my job's kinda... complicated.  At the moment I'm your Class F: general irritation and patience eliminator.  I started as a Class B, but since Morgan showed up... well, I guess things changed.  As for the boss... let's just say you don't want to meet him.  I'VE never met him.  But I got close, and... well, best not to talk about it.

MORGAN: I'm talking about my glorious manhood.  Just saying.

FINN & BACON: WE GET IT!

Maeria: How was the rebirth experience for Randall?

RANDALL: O you kno it was prety grate! I kinda forgot whut hapened after I pushd Mordak an the loud sound.  I had a dream about these giyant bunnys and they were so flufy!  They had these little wigglee noses an I cudint stop lookin at them!  They had lots of ice cream and they gave me some an it tasted grate!  When I wok up, Mordak was bein nice to me.  BEST DAY EVAR.

CoGVenjo: I would like to know if Morgan has done any soul searching while hanging out at Kit's house.  If the sudden death and resurrection (of sorts) of Randall made any impact at all on him.

MORGAN: What's a Randall?  And my dear child, I haven't searched for my soul since 1720 when I hooked up with that saucy pirate strumpet, and she sailed us to Tierra del Fuego where I saw it last.  Never did find the damned thing, but I suppose that's why it's damned, no?  Truth be told, I don't miss it.  All that uncertainty, the morals... who needs it?  Not I.  Not at all.

Captain-Black-Rose: For Kit: Favorite superhero, Alice in Wonderland character, and Hanson brother.  GO.

KIT: Ooohh, favorite superhero is tough.  I'm obviously not as well versed in superheroes as my pal Adam, but I'd have to say from the bits I've read and learned, Captain Marvel (Shazam) is my favorite.  What's better than an all-powerful super strong hero who is really just a little kid in another body?

As for Alice in Wonderland, I have to go with a cliche and say I was a Hatter girl from waaayyy back.  I was surprised to find what a huge thing it was when I got older, but something about him, his charming insanity, really stuck with me.

And well, Hanson brother, it's been Zac since I was 11.  Always will be.

Maeria: Where's Stephen?
Captain-Black-Rose: How's Stephen doing?  Has he achieved nirvana or enlightenment or bliss?  Is he any closer to being a prima donna ballerina?

STEPHEN: Oh my, two queries after me!  I am greatly honored by your compassion.  I am quite well, I thank you -- Kit has most graciously added a little temple and small pineapple in the manner of someone called Sponge Bob to my modest tank.  Though I do not require such attentions, her kindness moves me.  Nirvana and enlightenment are a lifelong pursuit, and I have much to learn.  As for bliss, such a thing is so very simple to achieve if one only observes the wonder and majesty of life all around!

BACON: So you can see why Mister Sunshine isn't in the comic a lot.  I'd like to karma him right in the face.

Maeria: Is Morgan aware that Kit batted away the perfect man and therefore should have no trouble resisting him?

MORGAN: If by "perfect man" you're referring to ME, thank you, treacle.  You should already know I am as the salted dark chocolate: irresistible for very long.

KIT: She's talking about the Perfect Man, a figment of my imagination from early on.  And he looked like Thor and spoke like Cyrano and acted like Tom Hiddleston.  So you, demon, can shove it.

MORGAN: *flipping through Snap Crackle Pop comic book* Hang on, got some research to do...

CoGVenjo: Adam, I would like to know your favorite albums/bands and if any are significant to your feelings toward Kit.

ADAM: Well, Band of Horses, the album "Cease to Begin", I pretty much always associate with Kit.  Every time I hear it, it just brings her right to my mind.  One of my favorite records is Love: "Forever Changes", a personal favorite.  Obviously, I love David Bowie, but I can't narrow down a favorite album -- maybe "Let's Dance".  Love the Beastie Boys: "Paul's Boutique" and of course The Beatles: "Help!" has to be my favorite Beatles record, and I played it a lot for Kit when we were first getting to know each other.

Maeria: What is Kit's favorite outfit?

Kit: If I can be comfy and not look like a water buffalo, I'm a happy girl.  Generally a short dress over some soft jeans is my go-to for a good self-esteem outfit.  When I dressed like that as a kid, everyone made fun of me, but now all the chicks are doing it.  Go figure that one.

FINN: I like you in that orange dress.

KIT: Finn, that dress is way too small for my boo --- oh jeez, you sick lizard.

FINN: What?  I'm a guy, I'm not made of stone!

Noface-knitting:  Morgan: So I thought you were out just to seduce Kit, but it seems like you've got some feelings for her now... Is it love?

MORGAN: Love?  My darling, I haven't been in love in centuries.  I think I know a little better than that, at my age.  Make no mistake, my precious thing, Kit is a job, and one I happen to excel at.  Get in, corrupt, and get out, those are the rules, and I'm not about to forget them for some infantile human with a pencil behind her ear and a weakness for Pablo Neruda poetry.  I will do and say whatever it takes to break down that iceberg, make her worship me, then leave her brokenhearted so my people can claim her in her despair.  So, yes, I suppose it is love.  I love my job.

Maeria: What does Bacon eat?  (i kinda take him for a vegetarian).

BACON: I could lie, but I ain't gonna.  I love a good BLT.

FINN: But Bacon, that's a... no.  No!

BACON: Don't judge me.  I can't help that I'm delicious.

FINN: *runs to bathroom*

Captain-Black-Rose: I'd love to know your very best chocolate cake recipe.

MORDAK: YOUR LORD MORDAK SHALL FIELD THIS QUERY!  I have a most delicious and satisfying recipe for you, human.  TAKE ONE POUND OF FRESH DESPAIR, SIX CUPS OF HUMAN FEAR, THE CONCENTRATED ESSENCE OF THE SCREAMS OF THE DOOMED, AND A HEAPING SCOOP OF MY RAGE --

KIT: That'll do, Mordak.  I use the box mix but undercook it juuuust slightly.  Moist as all getout.

CoGVenjo: For Finn - Do you have any hobbies or interests that don't quite make it into the strip? Music? Movies? Crafts? Reading?

FINN: I'm actually big into gardening!  I never get time to do it cause I'm so busy destroying everything Kit touches, but back home, my tomato plants and ghost peppers were the envy of the clan!  Sometimes it's nice to take a break from demon-ing and just make something grow.

MORDAK: LIES FROM THE FORKED TONGUE OF THIS LIZARD BEAST!  Thou hast never once watered me.

FINN: You're pokey and you say mean things and you always threaten to kill me.

MORDAK: Your tears are my ambrosia.

Maeria: What will Kit do now that she knows that Finn has the hots for her too?

WALRUS OF DENIAL: I think I should take this one.

KIT: You get out of here!  Where do you come from, anyway?

FINN: KIT KNOWS I HAVE --- ahem.  Miss, I think you must be mistaken.

KIT: Well, you did try to smooch me, bro.

FINN: No!  What?  You cray cray, girl.  I was trying to... mind meld.  With you.  To better plague you with my infernal influence.

KIT: Oh is that what that was.  Didn't know you were Vulcan.

FINN: YOU'RE Vulcan!

Anonymous: Mordak, Mordak in your pot- will I get this job after which I've sought?

MORDAK: HUMAN HUMAN, AT THE MALL
MORDAK SHALL DESTROY YOU ALL.

Maeria: Where's Perfect these days, does he keep in touch?

KIT: Oh, you know the Perfect Man.  He's been working with wounded rescue dogs ever since he successfully performed an emergency heart transplant on a golden retriever.  He was hand-sewing shoes for an orphanage in Ghana last month, and before that I think he appeared on Supernatural.

CoGVenjo: Kit!  You were making such headway on shooing all of the demons out of your home and being more centered and then they all came piling back in like a bad case of food poisoning - what happened?  Have you decided "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em"?  Are you learning to love your demons in order to see yourself more clearly?  or did you just run out of "demon spray"?

KIT: That's complicated.  I got rid of them for a while, but they always creep their way back in.  If I pretend they're not there, they just get crazier.  But we've all got demons, you know?  For some of us, it's a bad temper, for some it's fear or impatience or apathy.  For me, it's a bunch of idiot monsters who won't get off my couch.  Loving them may never happen, but loving myself, demons and all... okay, that may never happen either.

Maeria: If each of the SCP cast were another kind of animal, what would they be?

FINN: I'd be a big, scary DRAGON!  Oh, wait.  I'm a dragon already.

BACON: Sure you are.  Like a skink-dragon.

FINN: That's a thing?  No way.  I wanna be a big bird of prey!  A falcon!  Yeah!

BACON: You look more like a cow.  I would be a pit bull.  Don't nuthin' mess with this.

MORGAN: I'm already a tiger in so many ways, particularly under the sheets.  That's what I'd be.

STEPHEN: I would dearly love to be a panda, that I might spend my days munching bamboo and contemplating the universe.

KIT: Elephant, without a doubt.  They're chill, they're smart, they love each other, and they can be badass if they need to be.

ADAM: Well, if I couldn't be the Yeti, I'd probably go gorilla.  I kinda look like one.  Plus their scientific name is gorilla gorilla, how boss is that?

MORDAK: I WOULD BE CTHULHU.

RANDALL: I'm Randall!

CoGVenjo: For Adam - You've probably seen more of Kit's demons and self-deprecating humor than anyone else and you're still sticking around. Do you feel unfazed by her apprehensions and insecurity because you have your own? Do you feel like you can handle it because you handle your own so well? Or do we just not see your demons and self-deprecation in the strip because this isn't "The Adam Show" on KIT'S comic?

ADAM: Oh, we've all got issues, that's for sure.  I have the confidence of a wet sock, and I'm pretty sure I'm the kind of nerd that drives people away with his endless banter about Aquaman and Star Trek.  I guess around Kit, I try to hold it back because I know her issues are so fierce, they're, like, right up in her face, messing up her life and eating all her cheese.  She's a cool chick, she just has problems with connecting to other people.  I haven't been able to find out why yet, but it probably has something to do with why these crazy monsters flock to her and get up in her business.  I feel like she needs someone to be sane around her, for as long as it takes.

COGVenjo: For Randal and Mordak - Do you two feel that you've grown closer since the death and resurrection of Randal?

RANDALL: O Mordak an me ar always close!  he's actual a real nice guy wunce you get past how he yells and hates everbody.  After I woke up he let me make popkorn and watch Spongebob and he even sat near me an only calld me a morawn once!

MORDAK: ALL LIES!  I was only relieved that I would not have to search for another assistant!  Randall is fool enough to follow where I lead and fetch me whatever I require to work my brilliant schemes.  It is no easy task to find an agreeable Igor.  I was simply looking forward to ordering him around more.

RANDALL: He huggd me.

MORDAK: DID NOT!

Anonymous: Has Morgan ever been (sincerely) heartbroken?

MORGAN: Once.  Joan of Arc.  I lost that girl in every way it is possible to lose one, and then some.  I wasn't myself for centuries.  But!  Ancient history.  Let's talk about my junk some more.

Woohooligan: Morgan: How big is and/or describe your junk.  Finn, same question?

MORGAN: At last!  Let me say, first of all, that you know nothing of obscene size until you've seen---

FINN: Junk?  What junk?

MORGAN: It's a human term, modern, vernacular.  I got this handbook.  It means your naughty bits, your boy toys, your precious equipment.

FINN: My LEGO collection?

MORGAN: You blasted lizard.  They want to hear about my MANHOOD.

FINN: You don't have a hood.  You barely ever wear shirts.

MORGAN: Wait a tic, you wear nothing at all.  Where are you hiding your stuff anyway?

FINN: YOU'LL NEVER FIND MY CANDYBARS!

Noface-knitting: Kit: If Snap Crackle Pop were turned into a movie, what actors would be cast to be the characters?

KIT:  Ooohh, I'd have to ask for Caroline Dhavernas from Wonderfalls (and I guess she's in this Hannibal thing?).  She's way hotter than I'll ever be, but that's what we shoot for, yeah?  plus she played a character named Kit opposite Adrien Brody, who needs to get in my bedroom YESTERDAY.

For Morgan, I'd go with Sendhil Ramamurthy, who is hotness personified, and who played Mohinder on Heroes.  Paint him green and there ya go.  Google him now.  I'd google him plenty.

MORGAN: YEAH you would.

ADAM: Back on topic, girlfriend.

KIT: Right.  Sorry.  Adam is a tough one.  I mean, as long as I'm dreaming, I want the delectable Lee Pace.

ADAM: Not Mexican.

KIT: Diego Luna, then.

ADAM: Too angular.

KIT: Idris Elba.

ADAM: I have no problem with that.

FINN: Can I get George Clooney to play me?

BACON: And I want Deniro.

KIT: DeVito, more like.  But no, we're going full animated for you guys.  None of that cheesy Marmaduke crap, either, I want it to look like Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

BACON: No one will go see it without explosions.  I wanna be played by Vin Diesel, Finn by The Rock, get some no-name for the rest of you clowns and have me driving a Dodge Charger into a fireball.  BOOM.  Summer blockbuster.

FINN: Uh, Bacon?  Hang on, some guy named Michael Bay is on the phone?

KIT: Kill me now.

That's it for the Snap Back this time, kids! Many mahalos and big warm hugs to everyone who asked questions!  Thanks for reading, participating, and staying with me through all my crazy shenanigans!

Snap in the spotlight

Webcomic Spotlight – Snap Crackle Pop

01 Jun, 2013
It has been a little while since I posted one of these but the Webcomic Spotlight is back!  This time we’re taking a look at a webcomic that explores the life of a cartoonist as she is faced with her own demons that try to bring her doom and corrupt her.  We all have our own inner demons but Kit’s are real demons that taunt her and  live in her house.  We find zany attempts to depress Kit, talking cacti with a Napoleon complex, and fun visual gags in Snap Crackle Pop  by cartoonist Kit Fox.
snapcracklepop_highseascolorfaded_smallThe story centers around the creator’s vision of herself as a self-doubting cartoonist who has a love of marine biology and more than her fair share of demons and monsters living in her house.  The two most commonly seen roommates are Bacon the flying pig, who represents her personal phobias, and Finn the dragon who is her bad influence (sometimes these two are called Heckle and Jeckle).  Both are charged with tempting Kit but more often than not they just irritate her instead of causing much damage.  I do not think there is a specific reason why Bacon is trying to depress her but you’ll have to read the comic to find out why Finn is there!  They have been successful in making her feel bad about herself and causing her food bill to skyrocket but overall mostly result in hare-brained adventures for the cast.  Recently an incubus named Morgan was added to the cast to try to speed up Kit’s downfall but he’s often hindered by Kit’s own fear of relationships.
Although Kit is the focus of the comic, the story does meander around the other characters to provide entertaining side stories without watering down the plot.  Kit’s friend and sometimes love interest Adam finds himself being bothered by Finn and Bacon but usually deals with them in his own way such as calling a gorrilla to chase them away.  Another fun addition to the story is the many failed world domination attempts by the talking cactus duo, the  evil Mordak and his friendly brother Randall.  Some of Mordak’s failed schemes, like his making noise with party favors in order to irritate people and his fashioning Randall’s teddy bear into a zombie servant often remind me of the old Pinky and the Brain cartoons.
Many comic creators put themselves in their own comics as a way to express their inner thoughts.  Kit places herself in this comic in order to satirize many of the troubles that everyone faces from time to time.  While each strip provides a fun gag for the reader to enjoy, it also helps to highlight many issues facing our society like body image, interaction with others, and environmental issues.  Although it sometimes touches on serious doubts that plague many people, the comic always expresses light hearted fun and reminds us to have a laugh and enjoy life.  I find Kit’s spoof of everyday life hilarious!  This comic is highly addictive and has the potential to rival some of the greatest comic strips out there!
Q&A with Kit
snapcracklepop_strip285bustedAs the story progresses you have changed the look of the comic and even changed how the main character looks.  What prompted the change in Kit’s appearance?
(Kit) The first and most obvious reason for that is that the comic has been going on for six and a half years now, and over that kind of time anyone’s style is going to change.  I’ve always tried to improve, to learn from other artists and elevate the look of the strip.  Improvement has come very slowly, but I’m always chasing after my heroes, trying to get better.
Of course, with the somewhat lunatic decision to make the main character basically me, the look of the character often changes with my own appearance.  Over time, I’ve learned not to be scared to draw my own jelly belly, not to downplay my crazy curves.  I think girls who read the comic like to see women represented with different body types, and the male readers seem to appreciate it as well.
You also moved towards coloring the comic strips instead of keeping them grayscale.  How do you feel this has affected the comic?
(Kit) Once I got the hang of it, I think it’s been a major improvement.  I’ve gotten a few readers over the years asking for color, and I never had the means to do it properly until recently.  I had to buckle down and learn a new skill, one that I’m still working out some bugs with.  It sometimes takes a little longer to finish a strip, but it gives me freedom to have some fun with concepts I hadn’t tried before, and, in general, I think it makes the strip much more appealing to look at.
Heckle, Jeckle, and Morgan really seem comfortable at Kit’s house and appear not to be in much of a hurry to corrupt her. Which do you think does the best at his job or do they all equally annoy her?
(Kit) That’s a funny observation, and you’re right.  I think all the demons have gotten pretty comfortable with Kit, which is not necessarily good news for her, and the corruption becomes more of a slow, internal thing.  Finn and Bacon (or Heckle and Jeckle as I’ve called them before) have been with the strip the longest, and have always had a very shaky camaraderie.  They’ve never been very good at their jobs, and have gotten in hot water from time to time for being lazy bums.  I think over time they’ve grown to sort of like their human (Finn to a rather inappropriate degree), and they prefer chilling on her couch and eating out of her fridge to taking an active part in her destruction.  Their role in Kit’s life, however innocent it may seem, still does what personal demons tend to do to a person’s brain — they give her an excuse to hide from the world and to avoid human interaction.
snapcracklepop_strip301lovequarium
As for Morgan, he’s a much higher class of demonic entity, and truly likes his job.  He’s been aces at it up till now, but actually the work of Finn and Bacon, making Kit afraid to construct relationships and face intimacy, has totally c-blocked Morgan in this case.  His usual tactics of being a seductive jerkface don’t work, so he’s hanging around until he figures out what went wrong.
I think Morgan is probably the best at his job, technically speaking, but he doesn’t quite know what to do with a commitment-phobic cartoonist.  Finn and Bacon win the “most annoying” contest, but that may be because they eat all the bread in the house on a regular basis.
You often let the readers ask the characters questions which result in hilarious answers like the Ask Mordak tumblr.  What do you enjoy most about doing these comics for the reader?
(Kit) If you want the truth, I’m just tickled that people actually read this thing!  It’s so much fun getting to see people’s reactions to plot lines or new characters — readers always surprise me with their take on things, and it makes me more excited to do things for them, to feel like they’re involved in the strip.  I loved doing the Snap interview, where readers asked the characters questions and the characters answered, because it was not only a great writing challenge but a ton of fun.  I try hard to give each of my characters a really individual voice, so that if they were off-panel you’d still know who was talking just by how they sound.  I think letting the characters answer questions is a blast, not just for the insane or intuitive or hilarious questions the readers ask, but to take a backseat and think of how Finn or Mordak or whoever would actually answer.
The Ask Mordak Tumblr is pure lunacy.  LUNACY.

snapcracklepop_rubberhose_smallWith the recent celebratory 300th strip, there are tons of goofy Snap Crackle Popcomics to enjoy!  New strips are added weekly usually on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.  Sometimes Kit will post some extra artwork on the comic’s website or on her deviantART account or as a voting incentive for the Top Webcomics list.  If you prefer to have a printed collection of many of the strips, you can go to the comic’s Lulu store and purchase the 214 page paperback book for $16.50.  You will definitely have plenty enjoyment out of a collection that large!
If you are in need of a good laugh to brighten your mood, this webcomic is full of humorous jokes, awkward situations, and brilliant puns.  Fans of Looney Tunes or How I Met Your Mother will probably enjoy this comic like I have.  Will Kit ever be able to get over her fear of commitment?  Will the demons finally corrupt Kit?  Will we be ruled by a maniacal cactus?  Read Snap Crackle Pop to find out!

Tiny little update

Hey folks! I know I've abandoned you for a while now, but I just have a small update for you. After the official Snap Crackle Pop character interview, reader Mark had a question to add, which I am only now getting around to answering...

Mark: Are we going to see more of Lily Fox in your strip? Also, she looks kind of familiar. Is Lily modeled on one of the employees at Jelly's?

Actually, Lily is my big sister! This must be the only corner of the interwebs where people know who I am rather than her, as she's a pretty famous artist and about five billion times better than me, which I am only cool with because she's my best friend, my inspiration and one of the coolest, most incredible people I know. You can find her amazing art here, but don't start following her and abandon my comic. ;)

She may yet come back into the comic. I'll be honest, I have trouble writing people I actually know, because I always feel dumb writing their dialogue -- to me, it never really sounds like them. But Lily is my best pal, so she's never far away.

And older strip of ours...

Answers to your Snap Ask!

Last week I opened up questions to all the characters of Snap Crackle Pop, not just here on the site, but also on my DeviantArt, Tumblr, and Livejournal! The response was bigger than I expected and the guys had fun being interviewed. Here are your answers, folks! Grab a a cocoa and enjoy, it's a long one!

foreverstrange: I want to know what Stephen does in his spare time?
STEPHEN: How thoughtful of you to ask! I spend much of my time in quiet meditation. A useful zen practice is to breathe in all the bad energy of the universe and then to breathe out all the good, clean feelings I can produce. I like to study the teachings of the Dalai Lama, a most compassionate and marvelous individual. And, of course, I dance like a fiend.
KIT: He does. It’s like Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo up in here.

Abiogenisis: What percentage of that character is actually you?
KIT: Oh, 100%, for sure. This is no joke. The comic was started as a way for me to vent my spleen, so to say, and be a total egotist at the same time, and all the other fun crazy characters just started showing up for some reason along the way. Now they won’t leave. But the comic me is all me, except that I may be a little uglier in real life. Can’t be too candid.

DoctorMo: Where do you sleep?
FINN: Kit tells me to sleep on the couch but I always creep up on the foot of her bed by her feet. Her cat is there. She doesn’t like me. We fight over bed space sometimes. Kit’s feet are warm. I’m a dragon, so I should always win, but Suki... there’s something about her... she gets scary. So I made a hidey-hole in Kit’s closet.
BACON: The idiot tends to forget that we’re beings of supernatural power. I opened up a wormhole to the Hilton.
STEPHEN: I have a lovely temple in my tank.
MORDAK: I NEVER SLEEP!
RANDALL: Mordak, you and I sleep on the windowsill. You remember? When it’s night-night time? Remember, Mordak? I get Blankie for you. Remember? And I get out Mr. Stuffy. We sleep there, Mordak, remember? On the windowsill. That’s where we sleep. I’m sure we’ve been through this.
MORDAK: Silence, brother.

inulover1993: Did Kit ever notice that Finn took all of the bunches out of her cereal?
FINN: Demonology is a subtle art. I’m sure many of you cereal-earting humanoids have long suspected doings of a similar nature.
KIT: He did WHAT? I KNEW it!

OnlyThen: Will Finn ever find a lady demon/fall in love with someone?
FINN: There’s a girl I’ve had my eye on for many years, but that’s... not gonna happen. Somewhere out there, there’s a girl for me. Somewhere, one day...
BACON: You start singing, I’ll punch you in the neck.

ElectricGecko: So are you really canning the strip? If so, how can we stop you?
KIT: Look, kittens in cups!

KIWIGIRL1: Will Finn ever achieve his dream?
FINN: Sadly, I don’t think they make Hammer pants in my size anymore...

pump-kin-pie: What do the little buggers do other than bugging the main character?
FINN: Do? There are other things to do?
BACON: Shut up. You eat chips and watch Discovery Channel. Kit makes you stick to edutainment.
FINN: She says other TV has swears!
BACON: Dude... oh dude...

gingerhaole: I badly need to know Finn’s full name. Bacon’s too, if he has one, but I KNOW Finn has one. Also, where does Kit put all the house imps she has to shoo out of the kitchen?
FINN: My mom named me after my unfortunate uncle, who I messily devoured upon the event of my hatching. My full name is Phinneas Wormwood Bojangles Beowolf Smith.
BACON: Smith?
FINN: It’s a family name!
BACON: Yeah, anyway. I was named after meat.
KIT: You were not. I thought your name was Philip or something.
BACON: Are you fielding this one? I don’t think so! Moving on!
KIT: Sooo... My house imps usually get skooshed with a paper towel and flushed if they’re the small kind, y’know? But I have to admit, I feel bad for them. I mean sure, they’re gross, but I try not to kill them. I also have this empty peanut jar. I’ll try to catch them in that if I can and then just put them outside, but if their little hands get on me, oh man, it’s all over. Cootie dance to the max.

fenmere: How well does your boyfriend enjoy being in the comic? What does he think of the way you draw him?
KIT: Weeelll, technically, it’s not The Boyfriend in the comic strip. Adam is a character that’s got some qualities that are similar to The Boyfriend, but he’s very different. I did it that way deliberately because I wanted someone like my boyfriend in the comic, but not the exact same guy. He’s rather camera shy, and I’ve had bad experiences in the past with including friends in my comic, so it’s better to just make characters. Adam is similar in a lot of ways -- he’s a bit nerdy, he’s into comics and Trek and all the good stuff, but he’s also quite sure of himself, he’s not afraid to talk to girls and say how he feels, and that’s a quality that’s rather unique. Also he can put up with the strange monsters without raising a brow. We haven’t quite figured out why that is yet. Might be the boy’s not right.

muffinpoodle: How long have you been doing the strip now? How long does it take you to finish a strip? What do you do when you get stuck for inspiration or motivation?
KIT: Golly, it’s been (wow, I went and looked it up!) since November 24th, 2006! So five years, now. Gad, that’s a depressing long time. I usually spread out my work on a strip over a few days since I do other things in between -- I spend an hour or so penciling it, a few hours of inking and a few more hours on the grayscaling. It’s all quite boring, but done by hand, so it takes longer. The truth is, I’m never really stuck for inspiration because crazy things are always happening to me and so I can always find a way to stick it in the strip. Either I have a issue I want to talk about and try to make funny -- like body images or fear of creepy crawlies -- or actual funny stuff happens in my life and I think, this would work in the strip. I have a notebook crammed with ideas and my biggest fear is that I’ll honestly never run out of them.

Scarfia: What is Mordak up to? Any evil schemes?
MORDAK: FEAR ME, puling mortal of annoying largeness, for I am ever scheming! Do not be lulled by my diminutive stature, for I have plots galore, GALORE I SAY! Only the other day I was showing Randall a brilliant invention that would have annihilated every iPhone on the planet, thus bringing Earth to a BLISTERING STANDSTILL! Had he not spilled his cocoa on it... well.... DO NOT PESTER ME NOW, HUMAN!

Scarfia: Will Finn ever realize his dream of churning butter?
FINN: I... I don’t know how you know about that... Look, don’t tell my mom, okay? The family is obligated to feed weaker dragons to the hatchlings and... well, this kind of thing would break her heart. Let’s just say I sometimes just stir Kit’s Country Crock with a spoon when she’s not looking. It helps.

LuneLeclercVallois: How do you manage with your personal demons?
KIT: It’s a struggle, for sure. It’s like living with really needy cats. Every day it’s a battle to ignore their bad advice and remind myself that it’s actually NOT okay to throw things at the kids outside, that I actually DO need to pay my bills, that kind of thing. Lucky for me, they’re really lazy demons, and they spend most of the day just raiding my fridge and watching Julie Andrews flicks.
FINN: Do not! Take that back!

MimiLynch: What do personal demons do on their days off?
BACON: Smuggle Cuban cigars.
FINN: Fact is, demons don’t really get days off. We have to be ready at all times, poised like a panther, ready to strike. Evil never sleeps.
BACON: You’re like a cat, you sleep constantly.
KIT: Yeah, on all my sweaters, too.

veddabredda: To duck: Are you friends with the Duck Man from Terry Pratchett's Discworld universe?
DUCK: Quack.
KIT: I’ll translate for Duck. “I’ve never met the man, though he sounds quite the character. I’ll be reading my first Pratchett book this weekend and do so hope to encounter him!”

SinfulDeviant: I wanted to ask Adam a question; Do you like your girls curvy, if so call me!
ADAM: I do like them curvy! Frankly, I like them curvy, skinny, pale, dark, befreckled, any way at all as long as they read, think and are nice. And I may call you, since Kit has made it clear she’s a dead end.

smolderingremains: To Mordak: what's your kinkiest fantasy?
MORDAK: FOR ALL THE PITIFUL HUMANS OF EARTH TO COWER AND CRINGE AT MY MAGNIFICENT, DESTRUCTIVE BRAIN, FOR THE DIASPORA TO FALL TO THEIR KNEES IN HORROR AS I OBLITERATE THEIR PATHETIC LIVES! AND ALSO I LIKE TENTACLE PORN!

Lucasgelati: Trains?
FINN: Sure, I love trains! I... what?
BACON: D’yeah, I don’t get it.
MORDAK: It is a trick!

Roxanna Fortenberry: Will Finn ever get a girlfriend?
BACON: You mean outside of a dirty massage parlor?
FINN: Hey! Well Roxanna, I think the right girl is out there for me somewhere. It’s a full-time job, being a demon, of course, but once I’ve tucked a few souls away, I can see myself one day coming home to someone who’d cook for me... massage my feet... but this wild horse can never be totally tamed.
BACON: Hey Wild Horse, that reminds me, I borrowed your copy of Tits Ahoy.
FINN: Aw dude...

Roxanna Fortenberry: Where in Hawaii do you live anyways?
KIT: The cold part, currently. I live on the island of O’ahu, up on the north shore, the very country, surfer side of the island. I have a little shack (often overrun with bugs and beasties) which I love, but I still find it freezing because, having lived here for six and a half years, I’ve turned into a total baby.

Roxanna Fortenberry: What other comics are you wanting to work on? Will you ever take guest comics? What is your favorite comic?
KIT: I have several different plans for books, actually. A few illustrated picture books for children, and a few graphic novels. Many of these include pirates, monsters, bad poetry and heroic young folk, in my own whimsical and ridiculous style, and I hope that it translates into something vaguely publishable in the future. I’ve taken guest comics for SCP from :icon:The-Savage-Ape-Man before, who does great work in a style completely different to mine so it’s refreshing to see, but I have a very personal relationship to SCP so I would have to know and trust the guest artist completely, and understand their style, before I submitted any guest comic as a part of my regular lineup, though folks are ALWAYS welcome to do “fan art” as egomaniacal as that sounds! As to my favorite comic, I have a few that have always inspired me. Calvin and Hobbes, like many people, is the reason I’m here, and Bone by Jeff Smith completely changed my artistic life. It was Jeff Smith who turned me on to Walt Kelly’s Pogo, a fantastic vintage comic strip that I eat up just like candy. I also love Sherman’s Lagoon, Pearls Before Swine and Get Fuzzy. A great indie webcomic, of course, is my friend Isa’s Namesake,http://www.namesakecomic.com/ which, for fans of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, or anything good at all, is a treasure trove.

Roxanna Fortenberry: Hey Finn! For someone who has a crush on Kit, you sure are mean to her! WTF?
FINN: WHO TOLD YOU I HAVE A CRUSH ON HE––––err, Miss Fortenberry, you’re clearly confused. Perhaps you bumped your head. Or perhaps I should bump your head. Anyway, I have to be mean to Kit. Not only is she a ninny, and she deserves it, but it is one’s job. if one does not do one’s job, one loses it, and then one does not get to see one’s ninny ever again.
BACON: You are such a lurchburger.

secondlina: Why two demons? The traditional number is one or three. Also, why a winged pig?
BACON: Why a French Canadian? That’s like saying you’re a cheeseburger pizza, it’s like, pick one!
KIT: Bacon, if you don’t shut your piehole, it’s gonna be full of my fist. Anyway, I never actually gave much thought to the traditional number of demons because they just sort of appeared and stuck around. I hadn’t intended on having Bacon be a regular character when I introduced him, and he went away for a while, but came back when I introduced Finn. They worked so well together, it just seemed right. I guess Warburton kinda makes three, when he shows up, but for me, it was just an accident that the characters worked out the way they did. As to what Bacon is, his first appearance in the comic was a reference to Hell having frozen over and pigs flying, sure signs of the end of the world because I was in an unnatural happy relationship (all the more unnatural because I had invented the boy myself, and Bacon was there to make me destroy him... ah, the early days).

Dahlia-Mockery: Question for all the demons: what is your idea of the perfect woman?
FINN: Oh, someone uncomplicated. Someone sensitive and compassionate who enjoys the simple things like... corrupting the souls of the living... setting small creatures aflame with her breath... reading Pablo Neruda on a beach...
BACON: I like spanking. And big jugs. And naturally I prefer vegetarians or at least Kosher gals.
WARBURTON: Xena.

alexajaye: Finn: When will we see the softer side that keeps creeping in on occasion on a more permanent basis?
FINN: Sorry, babe. Doesn’t exist. I live on the edge, see? I’m a DRAGON, mujera, I breathe hot fuego! Yeah, that’s right. Know who my boss is? I can’t even say his name, that’s who my boss is. Ask Gotti’s people if they could say THAT. Softer side? I’m covered in red scales. I got armor on my armor. Smaug was a milksop pantywaist, homie.
BACON: You just made a Hobbit reference while sitting on your unicorn needlepoint.
FINN: I BROKE IT! YOU MADE ME BREAK IT!

Thanks for your questions, everyone! Hope you enjoyed the interview!
